Commissioner's Message

From the beginning of civilization, women are playing an important role in the development and progress by doing creative and development activities besides men. The country is moving forward in the successful pursuit of women in politics, judiciary, administration, finance, education, medicine, armed forces and law enforcement. But in our traditional society, women and children are still subject to violence and oppression. They feel helpless in many ways, including mental, physical, social, economic and are not interested in seeking shelter for the law because of fear of disrespect to society. In many cases women do not want to get in touch with the police because they do not have a friendly environment to share their sufferings. Considering all the matters Bangladesh Police has been adopted various action plans to provide legal assistance to the oppressed women and children in a friendly environment.

Emphasizing on the sensitivity and rights of women and children of violence a Victim Support Center was established in the metropolitan area in 2009. Later, Dhaka Metropolitan Police established the Women Support and Investigation Division in 2010 to increase the workforce of the Victim Support Center. This division provides short-term housing, food, clothing, sports, recreation and meditation, as well as medical, counseling, rehabilitation and legal assistance in partnership with eleven NGOs to provide timely services to women and children in evacuation and homelessness. In the following year a separate investigation unit was formed in this division. If the plaintiff or Victim of a sensitive case is a woman under the Women and Children Repression and Prevention Act within the jurisdiction of 50 police stations of Dhaka Metropolitan police then the investigating officers of the division investigated those cases with sincerity, integrity and professionalism. A Quick Response Team (QRT) also has been formed to this division which receives allegations through the hotline and arrives at the scene earliest to provide legal assistance, including medical treatment and later provide a thorough investigation of the allegations of the victim. To prevent women and children from being abused this division conducts public awareness programs at educational institutions, garments and other workplaces.

As a symbol of dependence for all abused women and children in the Dhaka metropolitan area this division provides 24 hour service. I my believe that the Women Support and Investigation Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police will play a vital role in preventing all forms of violence against women and children along with the implementation of Vision 2021 and Vision 2041 to ensure the empowerment of women in Bangladesh.
